I think we could all learn from the perfectly angelic, still face of a sleeping child. I was having one of those restless nights where my mind was racing…my worries were overshadowing my blessings..and I was left with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Surely I’m not alone here? I know I should “give it to God” but on nights like these….it’s a give and take with me. I give to Him and then I yank it right back down again. I was so lost in my own worries that I almost missed the beauty of my son’s sleeping face. A child completely at rest…vulnerable…free…trusting…
truly spectacular and a moment that I could have lost if God had not made me open my eyes and see His beauty. The gift of my own son-one of God’s ongoing reminders to me that miracles DO happen. I let go, closed my eyes, and finally slept-just like a baby.
Sleeping Like A Baby
Poop Talk!
There is something so very satisfying about hearing your son call from upstairs that he “just went poo poo in the potty”. That’s my boy! All by himself! Did he get a little fixated on the fact that it looked like a big broken banana? Oh, sure! Boys will be boys! Folks, that does it! We are offficially done! Potty training…over and out!
Is there anything better than an early morning run?
Yes, an early morning run in the early morning rain MINUS the early morning Dallas heat! ‘Nough said! Have a great day!
Day 1 Of The Cabbage Soup Diet
4:04pm and I have to tell you….it’s not that bad. I didn’t even eat until 12:20pm and it was only to make sure I got my cabbage soup in. I added curry powder to the batch I made last night and it was a little overpowering. I can see where the soup is going to get old though. I followed it with a grapefruit chaser and a strawberry and that’s been it so far. I wish someone hadn’t made popcorn in the breakroom though. Boo to that person!! I may blog later as the starvation starts to sink in!
What Is Your Definition Of Wealth?
Just curious….and I’d really like to know. You see, I’m betting that all of us in the business have know the joyous highs and the joyous lows. Does that make sense? Joy isn’t necessarily exclusive to wealth. I’d been better off…and I’ve not been (see my current status. haha). I feel wealthier right now than I have in a long time. Loving what you’re dong equates with one “rich” Mamma. Truly! It’s kind of where I’m at right now….just feeling very joyously full and wealthy….the good stuff…the right stuff. Blessings!
What I’m going to cook for dinner tonight!!!
I am a “brave” cook but not necessarily a good one so we’ll see how this turns out. haha.
Recipe For Carrot Quinoa With Beans
original recipe
Ingredients
1 cup quinoa, rinsed
1 bouillon cube
1 cup raw carrots, sliced
15-ounce can of black beans, rinsed
Directions
1.Place the quinoa and two cups of water in a covered pot on high heat. Once it starts boiling, add the bouillon cube, keep covered, and lower heat to simmer.
2.After 10 minutes, add the raw carrots and cover the pot. Cook for another two to five minutes, or until the germ separates from the seed (you’ll see little half-circle tails).
3.Remove from heat, stir in the black beans, and enjoy warm or cold.
New!
I’m rather excited. Tomorrow I start a new venture with Citadel Media. You can find me on over 50 stations around the United States Monday through Friday from 10a to 3p! Hot AC and ready to go! I’m back! My dear friend and former colleague, Race Taylor, follows me. Small world! Almost like Mix 102.9 circa 1996! haha!
Look What The Cat Dragged In!
IF I had a cat, that is! I’ve been spending some time doing the old “purge and merge” deal. I hate Spring cleaning…and yet, I love it. Getting rid of the clutter so you can take account of what you have. It’s a painful process, isn’t it? I found some real stinkers….a Bedazzler, a Hairdini, a Slap Chop, a microwave egg poacher, an onion steamer, and a still-in-the-box Snuggie! Toss! I donated bag loads of kids clothes.shoes, and household items to charity! I found dust bunnies, forgotten Sippy cups, old pacifiers, and molded cereal bowls. Honestly, I’m exhausted. Susie and I made several trips to the Community Clothes Closet and as we were ready to turn in our last bag full….what should fall out but the iced tea machine that I had been torn over for days. What’s a girl to do? Keep it in hopes of having fresh brewed iced tea daily like the good Southern girl that I am or blow off the layer of dust that it has collected in its years of non-use and do the right thing! Buh-Bye! Good riddance! I had been so good in sticking to my rule: If I haven’t used it in a year…get rid of it! There it was….sweet Mr. Coffee iced tea maker. Beckoning me. Beckoning Susie. Tugging at my Southern roots…making me long to put on an apron and forage amidst my herb garden for that perfect sprig of mint. I caved! We brought it back. Have I used it yet? No. In fact, we’ll probably revisit it again next year. Bottom line is….in these times of uncertainty in my life…I still long for the simple life. Lazy tea-sippin’ Summer afternoons spent with friends and family.
Rockin’ The Wave!
My 9 year-old and I were watching the Tv Guide channel the other day! Yes, that’s how I parent….I’ve introduced her to such meaty and weighty shows as “High School Reunion”. We were treating ourselves to a marathon Saturday of back-to-back “Reunion” episodes in our jammies. Girl time at it’s finest! It’s funny how those channels target their core viewers to a tee. How many of us have fallen victim to the dreaded Infomercials? There right in front of my eyes was everything I wanted to be…in just 40 minutes a day! Buy something called The Wave and your life will change! Oh honey, sign me up! Susie and I were mesmerized for a full thirty minutes and then she says the sweetest thing….”Mom, that looks just like you!” Those instructors on the infomercial looking JUST LIKE ME? Only from the mouths of babes, right? I demurred and played humble…but I was secretly flattered. “Mom, that looks so much like you that I’m going to buy it for you for Mother’s Day. I just know you’d have fun doing it.” Oh, she meant that it looks like me as in “my cup of tea”. haha. Back to reality! She had me call the 800 number and order it…promising that she would dig into her piggy bank and pay me back. Have you ever tried to order one of those “as seen on tv” deals? I have never had to go through so many prompts. I ended up ordering The Wave and erroneosly many more of The Wave’s promised bells and whistles. I was hitting prompts, canceling prompts, re-keying prompts…I think I finally hit the “confirm the order” prompt just to end the whole deal! My Wave system will not be here for the another couple of weeks but I promise you it will be a memorable Mother’s Day gift in that it was thought of and paid for by my daughter. I’m going to be “Rockin’ The Wave” with the best of them soon! I’ll keep you updated. What’s next? Shall I be brave and try the Topsy Turvy? Don’t tempt me!
